Comparing Kraft cardstock

Friday, November 30, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone! As you all probably know Michaels no longer sells their Recollections Kraft cardstock in 12x12 anymore. Now I still have some left, but I am running low. I thought I would try some new stuff. Now I did buy the cardstock from Close to my heart.

The paper on the right is the close to my heart cardstock and the left is the recollections one. As you can see the colour is different. But I don't really mid the lighter paper. The CTMH paper isn't quite as thick as the Recollections paper. However, I don't mind that either because I usually put a lot of layers on my paper so it will reinforce it that way.

All in all I am happy with the new cardstock. Until I find something that I like better I will stick with the CTMH paper for layouts!

Thanks and I hope this helps everyone!

Fake Hair and Curls

Thursday, November 29, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone! Today I have a layout showing me and my aunt getting ready for my wedding. My mom took these pictures because she thought it was funny that I had hair extensions in my hair, or fake hair as she called it. Which is where I got the title for this layout.

The paper for the layout is from American Crafts Dear Lizzy Neapolitan collection.  I used washi tape for embellishment and made my own flags for the top of the square from the paper.  The alphas are both thickers.

Enjoy!

CTMH: Avonlea Family Layout

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello again! Today I am back with a layout that I made using the Avonlea paper pack. This picture was from  my wedding. I wanted to really focus on the picture to show it off. I really love how this page came together!

The title and flourishes are from the sticker sheet that matches the Avonlea kit.

The cardstock is also from CTMH, the green comes in the Workshop on the Go kit and Kraft.

I hope that you enjoyed! As always feel free to e-mail me or go to my website for more inspiration!

Dog Pals Layout

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! Today is another layout of the dogs! This is a simple layout showing them outside together and also their size difference waiting at the door to be let in.

I used paper from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook collection for the layout. And a tiny strip of paper from October Afternoon I believe, I think it is from the Sasparilla collection that I got in a kit a long time ago. The letters are Basic Grey and Thickers.

CTMH: Remember Layout

Monday, November 26, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone! This is a layout that I made using the Flirty paper pack from CTMH. It was a super simple layout and was really easy to put together. I wanted to make something simple that would be easy for everyone to make. I am trying to make some that are varying degrees of difficulty.

The title is a sticker from the Avonlea sticker sheet, the brackets also.

The stamp with the date on it is from the Stamp of the Month. It's for November, which means that it's not going to be available for much longer!

I hope that you enjoyed this simple layout! If you are interested in any of the products I used and would like to learn more about them send me an e-mail or visit my CTMH page

Bridal Shower Layouts

Monday, November 26, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello crafting friends! Today I am sharing two layouts because they are both from the same day. One is just the details at the shower and the other is me at the shower. As you can see my favourite colour is purple!

The title of this layout was cut using my Cricut! (this was made before I had a Cameo LOL) I used the Tie the Knot cartridge. The flower and ribbon embellishment is actually from one of the presents I got that day. The paper I used is from Carta Bella and it's the Paris Girl collection. That little journal spot and ticket are also from that collection. I used my Martha Stewart border punch to create the borders.

This layout is completely different. I don't actually like how it turned out so I may tear it apart and start over, I think I might make it into a 2-page layout instead. I will see how I feel later about it though. These are just the details of the day. All the decorations they made for me and the chair that I was to sit in. The "cake" is actually made from towels.

The paper I used is from the Amy Tangerine original collection, I believe, it could be from the sketchbook one too. I have both of them and I can't remember which one this is from, if you know please comment and let me know! The letters are Basic Grey chipboard alphas and the stickers is from a sticker set that I had in my stash.

Enjoy!

CTMH: Avonlea Card Experiment

Sunday, November 25, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

HI everyone! Today I have a Close to my Heart project that I made with all my fun new stuff!

This card uses the avonlea papers and the stamp set that comes with the Workshop on the Go kit
I decided that I wanted to experiment with stamping the background. It was a lot of fun! Not really something that I do very often though. The shapes are from the Avonlea sticker sheet

This is a really different project for me to do! I hope that you all liked it. If you are in the Ottawa (Canada) region and want to learn more about stamping/scrapbooking or want to book a home gathering to make a fun Christmas project, you can contact me through my CTMH website, or e-mail me at jessclosetomyheart@gmail.com

Thanks for stopping by!

Best Friends Layout for Dogs

Saturday, November 24, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! Again for the layout I only have one picture, I don't know what I was doing when taking this batch of photos.

This is a layout of my puppy and my mom's puppy (yes he is still a puppy) while were visiting at her house. There is a little bit of back story to go with this layout before I tell you what products were used. Rocket (golden) and Alfie are really best friends  while we were there Rocket let Alfie climb all over him and chew on his ears. You are able to see in the one picture a little but of black fur on the side of Rocket, that is Alfie's tail.

The paper I used for this was from the American Crafts original Amy Tangerine collection I believe  I could be wrong and it could be from Sketchbook though. I made this layout about 2 months ago so I really can't remember. The green paper is from Lilly Bee Designs, it's from an old kit that I got so I don't remember the name of that paper, it was just a scrap.  The eiffel tower and flower are both stamped images cut out and coloured. The heart on the paper was already there, I just wanted to tie it into the layout more.  I used thickers for the title. The blue is a fabric font and the brown is chipboard.

There will be more of these two to come too! Rocket is coming to visit in a few days!

Silhouette Cameo: I love you Polaroid Frame Layout

Thursday, November 22, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! This is going to be a short posting because I only have one picture of this layout! As you can tell from the title of the post I cut the frame with my Cameo. (Oh my goodness I love my cameo sooo much!)

The flower embellishments were cut out from paper from the Sketchbook line from Amy Tangerine/American Crafts. That is also where all the paper on this layout comes form too. Except the solid cardstock behind the fame for the letters.

This layout really came together quickly. I am quickly settling into a "style" for scrapbooking and I really like how it is going. However, as with anything, I could change my mind tomorrow and go for something different!

I forgot to mention that the idea for outlining this layout came from an awesome person on youtube. Here is the link to her blog here and I'm sure you can find her on youtube also. Her name is Mercytiara on youtube.

Silhoutte Cameo: Remember Polaroid Frame Layout

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing this layout, again from my wedding, of my grandparents. You will a lot of similarity in my layouts in terms of products used. I was trying to keep a continuity to my album by using similar products and the same ones on the pages.  I used paper from Recollections My Favourite Things paper pad. I love that paper pad so much! Such great girly colours in it. As well as a tonne of Paris motifs!

The frame was cut using my Cameo. As well as the little love tag. The journal spot is from a Making Memories bound jounalling book. Washi tape was also used along with Studio Calico's scrap pad.

Enjoy and happy crafting!

Hi everyone!

Here is my layout for the November Sketch Challenge over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles
You have to use the sketch and incorporate the scrap twist, which was to use a number somewhere on the page.

You can find the current challenge and sketch here: Sketch Challenge

Have fun with your take on this great sketch!

Yucky Sprouts

Monday, November 19, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! I am back again with another layout! I made so many while I was on a blogging break. This layout was inspired by the strange sprouts that were in the salad at the wedding reception. My friend took this picture so I will always remember the strange stuff in my food. It's a great memory!

I used some thickers and Basic Grey chipboard letter stickers to create the title. The paper is a mix between Basic Grey, American Crafts (Amy Tangerine) and Lilly Bee.

Silhouette Cameo: Hot Chocolate Holder

Saturday, November 17, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone! I wanted to share this modified project with you today.  It's a hot chocolate holder! I got this cut file from the Silhouette store, BUT it's really for note 3x4 cards! In the software I made the cut bigger and only cut out the box, none of the extra stuff that came with it. It made it the perfect size for my hot chocolate packets. I was able to fit three of them in there!

The paper on three of the boxes was from the DCWV Christmas stack called, The Winter Holiday. The other paper is from Mambi Sheets and there is no title of the stack.

I cut the mug from the Silhouette, then I took one of my Martha Stewart border punches to cut out "marshmallows" for the hot chocolate.

This tag was cut using my Silhouette.

I know there are a lot of pictures in this post. But I really wanted to show the different angles and the hot chocolate in the boxes.

Wedding Layout: Sisters

Friday, November 16, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Here is a layout that I created of my sisters at my wedding reception. They were in the wedding party and clearly were having a really good time.
I used paper from the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan collection by American Crafts.
I also used two die cuts from the silhouette store, the camera tab and the "look at us" label.  As well as the scalloped border behind the photo layer block.

My journalling was written on a jar from the Dear Lizzy collection.

The little blue tab is from Studio Calico and it's from their scrap pad. The smile was cut out from the Dear Lizzy paper and outlined with a black pen. This was all layered on top of the washi tape I am using throughout this album.

The butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch.

The circle piece is also from the Studio Calico scrap pad.

Together Layout

Thursday, November 15, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello again! I'm back again, this time with a scrapbook layout. As you may know I recently got married. This is a layout that I made of my Aunt and her husband from the hotel lobby where we were all staying.  I used several different products on this layout and I am trying a new technique where I outline the patterned paper that I use.
The main collection that I used in this layout is from Recollections and it's the "Today, Tomorrow, Forever" paper pad. You can find this at Michaels.

In this photo you can see how I positioned the pictures. I did cut them down from the 4x6 size to make them fit the way that I wanted them to. Also, since my mom took these photos there was a lot of "white space" in the backgrounds and I wanted to cut that out.

Here you can see the layout in its entirety. Sorry about the poor photo quality, I am having trouble with my good camera.

This is a close up shot of the little die cut piece that I used for the title. I didn't want to use letter stickers, I just wasn't feeling them with this layout. Perhaps I just didn't have the right ones. This cut is from the Silhouette store and I believe it comes in a set of three. You are also able to see the little wood veneer camera that is by Studio Calico. Behind the title piece is a bit of washi tape which is part of all my layouts from the wedding.

Silhouette Cameo: Photo Box Holder

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone! I finally got my pictures taken and uploaded to the computer. Now I am going to post all of them to my blog, so stay tuned for lots of new posts!

The box and lid were cut out using a Silhouette file from the store. I believe it is a design created by Lori Whitlock.

photo box

That is the link for the photo box on Lori's website. If you have a Silhouette you should know that you can access the file in the store there.

The box was really easy to put together. I didn't have any problems with it. I used a fairly thin piece of cardstock to put this box together.

Hope you enjoy my project and stay turned for more!

Close to my Heart

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone!

For a while now I have been thinking about opening my own scrapbook store. Well I just don't know how to go about starting that, so I decided to ease into things by becoming a Close to my Heat consultant. I am not going to try and make a ton of money doing this, that is not the point for me. It is to help people access some great product and showing how to go about using the product.

I hope that you will all support me in this and put up with all the CTMH posts that are going to follow this one.

I will still be posting my regular assortment of posts using the Cameo, Cricut and just normal scissors!

Here is my link for CTMH:
