Book Review: Scrapbook Tips & Techniques

Friday, December 30, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Here is a book that I have found to be awesome! I only have the second book, but there is a first one too.  I really like this book because of all the great ideas to be found in it, but also because there are step-by-step instructions on how to achieve certain looks for your layout.
This book has great money saving ideas also. Always a good thing of scrapbookers!

I hope that this will help you all out there. I really did love reading through this book and found it very useful!

DD: Travel Day One

Hello!
This holiday season I am doing quite a bit of travelling. I thought that I would document that into my own version of the December Daily album I am making!

This page is for the first day of travel.

The tree was cut from Winter frolic.

The letters are thickers and recollections.

Memories double page layout

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello again!

I made this layout using pictures from our family trip to the beach. Our whole family went to the beach together, and it was so much fun!!

Since I had so many pictures I made a double page layout to fit them all on it. I honestly don't know what paper brands i used, they were just ones that I had laying around for a while and from various stacks that I have from the look of them.

I also used various stickers from my stash in an attempt to use them all up.

Happy creating!

Hello everyone! Happy Holidays!!!

This is a layout that I made to record our present wrapping fiascos! We aren't the greatest at wrapping presents so this is what we come up for various items.

The word was cut out using Winter Frolic, and so were the tags.

Happy Holiday crafting!

Hello again, I am back with another Christmas layout for you!

THis time it is a layout featuring our stockings! Every year I make stockings for family members and my kitties!

The little stocking in the corner was cut from Winter Frolic I believe. I cut it out using Paper Layerz by Megan Elizabeth which you all know that I love! they are my favourite way of cutting things out but I just used my last sheet on this project.

The tag and words were also cut from that cartridge. I think I fit it to length at 10 inches. Which turned out to be about 4.5 inches I think.

Sweet Caramelle

Thursday, December 08, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello!
How about a change for today! Instead of a Christmas page, I chose a bright coloured page of my kitten.

I made this layout of my new kitten Caramelle.  She was just 6 weeks old in this picture too.

I got the paper from Michaels and I think that it's Making Memories, but I'm not sure.

I put a mat behind the picture and cut a scalloped border using my martha stewart corner punch, this work great for making a border!

I used lots of pinks on this layout because my other two "babies" are boys and I was excited for using pinks.

I added stickles to the flower centres so that they popped out of the page more.

DD: Christmas tree

Merry Christmas readers!

This layout I made for my first entry of my December Daily book. We just happened to have put the tree up on December first without really planning it to happen that way.

This layout is for one 4x6 picture and one 3x3 picture.

The trees are cut from Winter frolic. I know I use this cart a lot but I really do love it!

The words are also cut from that cart too.

Merry Christmas!

Here is a layout that I made using the Winter Frolic cartridge and some holiday papers. I used the DCWV seasons stack and some recollections paper as well. There is only one photo mat on here for a 4x6 picture with some faux stitching around the edges.

The bunny was cut from Winter Frolic.

The letters are American Crafts thickers.

Enjoy holiday crafting!

Hello!
This is a posting for the video that I made a while ago showing the page. I thought I would post actual pictures of it as well.

Since I explain it in the video I won't say where and how I cut things.

Album for Collection: Dolls: Tweet Twins

Monday, December 05, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone!

Today I am going to share another two page layout with you.  This one is for another set of twin dolls.  These ones are not himstedts though, they are another type, Gunzels I believe.

For this layout I used paper from Amanda Blu's woodland animals paper pad. I used the paper with the tweet birds on it and base papers are the ones with the owls on them, but the reverse side.  I originally wanted to use just the bird paper, but it didn't leave a lot of room for pictures in-between the wording. So I changed my plan and cut the words out to use as border strips instead on a different base.  Then I used the leftover paper for photo blocks.

The sun is cut out from Create a Critter at 3 inches and the rainbow is cut out at 2 3/4 inches.

I wrote the name of the doll(s) in the heart at the bottom of the rainbow and twins in the rainbow itself.  I wanted to include both of those things, but not so that it took away from the title blocks.

The pink photo blocks are 4.5x6.5 and he green ones are 4x4.

Sorry for the flash, I had already put the pages in my album and forgot to take pictures of it. I wanted to minimize the possibility of ripping paper and not take the pages out again.

Floppa Peach Layout

Sunday, December 04, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone!

I made a new layout today. It's of my cat Peaches. He likes to flop a lot on his back and stick all his paws up in the air.

I got the Meow Cricut Lite cartridge yesterday. I love it! I think I will be using it a lot because I have a lot of cat pictures to document. I cut out the clothesline image with all the layers and put it together for the embellishment.

Then I used some paper from the max and whiskers 6x6 pad, deja views cat's life pad, bazzil cardstock and DCWV animal crackers matstack.

I used various sayings from the cat's life pad along with a couple little paper punches from the same stack.
The page didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped, but I still enjoy it.

Happy crafting and enjoy!

Album for Collection: Dolls: Shoes

Sunday, November 20, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello again!

I created this page with shoes in mind. The woman I am making this for loves to buy shoes for her dolls. I thought that creating a page all about those shoes was a good idea.

I used a piece of plain purple card stock for the base and glued a patterned paper on top of some kraft paper for the focal point. I rounded the corners of the pink paper with my Martha Stewart corner rounder punch (I love).  Then I cut some photo blocks out of another patterned paper from that all about girls stack. The big one is 4.5x6.5  and the smaller ones are 4x4.

I cut the shoes out from the Forever Young cartridge at 2 inches and the title at 2 1/4 inches along with the shadow feature.

Album for Collection: Dolls: The Twins

Friday, November 18, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello everyone!
Today I am going to share the first of my double layouts. This one is for a set of twin dolls that she owns. These ones are called Jani.

For the title I cut it out from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. I believe the letters are cut around 2 inches.  I don't remember and I didn't create this layout on my gypsy. I used the shadow feature as well.

The ice cream cone was cut out using Doodlecharms and it was cut at 2 3/4. I then took the layers and ran them through my cuttlebug using swiss dots and d'vine swirls.

The names were cut out using the child's year font, at about 2 inches as well. I then went around them with a white gel pen making little dots on them to give it a bit extra texture.

All the pattern paper is from a recollections paper pad, all about girls. I mounted the background piece of white card stock. The pattern is cut 1/4 of an inch smaller than 12x12.  Then I used two pieces of 8 1/2x11 black card stock and cut the teal paper about 1/2 an inch smaller than it.  The purple matts are 4.5x6.5 and the bottom one is 3x6.

I glued on some buttons for a border between the two photo mats. The little journal block is from that same paper pad as well.

Hope you enjoyed this double layout!

Album for Collection: Dolls: Title Page

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone!
I am currently making a friend (MIL) an album to showcase her collection of rather valuable dolls. These dolls are German made and very expensive! They are called Himstedts, if you are interested in knowing more about them.

I am making her an album and thought that I would share with you all too! I am sure that she doesn't read my blog so I am able to share this process with you. I am hoping that you can maybe give me some more ideas and some feedback on what I already have.

I must say that a lot of my page inspirations have come from creative cricut designs I also subscribe to her videos as well. If you have youtube and enjoy watching scrapbooking videos, Jennifer creates beautiful pages using her Cricut Expression and Imagine! I highly recommend her videos for inspiration.

With this album, as they are dolls and they get dressed up, I am using a lot of the images from Forever Young. I find that the little icons like the lipstick and shoes go great with what I am trying to create. I also have used DoodleCharms, A Child's Year and Create a Critter as well as the font from Plantin Schoolbook.  I am trying to utilize all my cartridges to really get my value out of them! I do wish that I had paper doll dress up, I think it would really come in handy right now.

For the title page I used a paper from DCWV once upon a time stack. It is the once upon a time paper too. I thought that it would add a little bit of a fairy tale quality to the album without being too much.

I cut the monogram from A Child's Year at 3 3/4 and the letters at 3 1/4.
From forever young, I cut the girl at 7 3/4, the lipstick at 1 3/4 and the nail polish at 1 1/2.

For added touches I went around the monogram with a purple marker and the letters with a white gel pen to set them apart from the model's legs.

Hope that this inspires you to create something that is a little different for an album!

Halloween Goody Bags

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello!
I made these super easy and quick goody bags and wanted to share it with you. I used paper from My Mind's Eye Blackbird collection which I got very cheap at Winners.
I made 20 of them and it took me about an hour to do all of them including the cutting.

Yellow paper is cut at 6x4 inches. Scored at 2 inches on the 4 inch side lengthwise. the pattern paper is cut at 2x6 and glued onto the yellow to cover the staples.

Here is the demonstration video! Enjoy!!

All I want for Christmas

Friday, October 21, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone!

I just finished a layout for Christmas, I know it's early, but I wanted to make it before Christmas rather than after and just pick a picture to add to it!

I made it using the Winter Frolic cartridge.

Ingrediants:
Christmas paper: Recollections Sugar Plum Christmas pad
Paper Layerz by Megan Elizabeth
Brown card stock (recollections)
Cream card stock
diamond stickles
golden rod stickles
green stickles
zig two way glue pen
atg
scotch quick dry
xyron sticker maker
cricut expression
paper trimmer

First thing I did was cut my photo mats. The red layer is cut at 4.5x6.5 the blue at 5x7.

Then I cut out my mouse and put him together. He is on page 56 of the handbook and I cut him at 4 1/4 with all the layers. I didn't use the eye piece because I put stickles there instead. (The ear is the paper layerz piece). He is sooo cute! I love him very much!

Then I cut the tag for a journalling spot. Tag is on page 43 of the book, cut at 2 1/4. Both the shadow and the top piece. The white is from paper layerz as well.

For the title...I had a bit of trouble with it. I cut it to fit to length at 5 inches. Which cut it at 1 3/4. DO NOT go smaller than this! Those letters are very very thin! I had to cut it twice because it ripped taking it off the mat the first time. I used pop dots to pop up the words.
Page 66 of the book. Cut both the word and the shadow.

The little present in the bottom is the back side of the tiny little piece from the tag.

Then I blinged everything up with stickles and some baker's twine (no idea where that is from)!

Look at the detail on the bottom of the paper! I love it!

Have fun and enjoy!!

Halloween Card Boo

Hello!
I made this quick video showing how I made a Halloween card. I am not good with editing so what you see is all that I know how to do.
Maybe I can get better at this as I go on!

The paper for this card is from my mind's eye the black bird collection.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for taking a look!!

Alright! I am going to start trying to make videos! I know it's a big step for me. I will try my best to make a new one every week. YAY!!

This might be hard for me because I am not good at editing things. I will try though. It's a new challenge for me that I am looking forward to getting into!

Circle Card: Cricut for (or with) Kids

Friday, September 23, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello again!

Today I thought I would make something that you can make with your kids or that kids can make themselves depending on their age. Just make sure that you are supervising them because the Cricut does have a sharp blade in it!!

I made this circle card, mainly just because I wanted to make a card with my gypsy. I thought that you could also use a pre-made card that is a circle from a cart as well.

I cut out the card base at 5.5, the purple circle at 4.70, the pink one at 3.75 and the blue at 3.70 which I realized after wasn't a good idea because it was essentially the same size.

With the blue one I made a spiral cut so that it would pop up more. I also used to like cutting those all the time as a kid too!

Then I just embellished how I felt like. I used some butterfly punches and a button.  I also added some ribbon to the purple layer to tie in the blue there too.

On the inside I heat embossed the saying. I know this could be difficult with kids, but I think that they might enjoy doing that when they see how it changes like that. It is really neat. I think that if you are there helping, older kids especially could do this! If not, maybe Mom/Dad could work the heat gun and the kids can do the rest?

Anyway, I just thought this card would be a fairly simple one for kids to make for someone.

Happy Creating!

Halloween Card Challenge

Thursday, September 22, 2011 4 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone!
It's been a long time since I have been able to post. I have been really busy with family visits and work and school starting.
I just wanted to share with you something that I made for a challenge today.

This is a Halloween card. The base is from DCWV and it came in a set of 5 or 10 of them with envelopes. I normally make my own bases but I had these lying around so I thought I would use it for a change.

The patterned paper is also from DCWV, it's from a calendar kit that you make yourself. I didn't want to use that paper so I used it for a card instead.

The sentiment is a cheapy stamp from Michaels that I used versamark and heat embossed with white powder.  I put it on black cardstock then cut it out attached it on with a pop dot.

The pumpkin is from Gypsy Wanderings cut out at 3 inches. I inked the edges with black ink and popped it up with pop dots as well.

I did a little gel pen work around the black and there you have it!

You can find the challenge here:  challenge

Enjoy and happy creating!

Cricut Gypsy!

Thursday, August 11, 2011 0 Comments A+ a-

Hi everyone!

This is just going to be a short little update because I haven't really created anything.

Yesterday I bought a gypsy. Here is the thing I got the best deal in the world! They are regularly $287 at WalMart and this one was on sale for $187. HOWEVER when I got to the cash the price came up at $135!! I saved so much money on the gypsy!
Now all I have to do is learn how to use it really well. All I have done is link my carts and do all the updates to my cricut and the gypsy!

I will say that the updates take a long time if you are just starting with it now and need to do all of them.

Cricut Cardz Challenge #86

Thursday, August 04, 2011 8 Comments A+ a-

This week's challenge is to make any card using a fruit on it. You can find the challenge here: Challenge

You will notice that I was chosen as last week's winner! This is very exciting for me because I have never been chosen, even randomly, to win anything before.

This week I have chosen to use the Just Because Cards cartridge and put my own spin on it.

All the cuts were made at 2 3/4. I added some stickles to it and some ribbon. The watermelon was cut using an extra layer to make it look more like a real watermelon. The ribbon is just the Michaels brand. The card base is an 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock cut in half. All the paper is from recollections.

Hope you enjoy.

Happy creating!

Whimisical Wednesday Challenge: "Sense of Humour"

Thursday, August 04, 2011 12 Comments A+ a-

Hello again everyone! I have been busy today. I have been making a layout for the Whimsical Wednesday challenge. This week's challenge is to use humour. I chose pictures of my cat because he is really funny!

I cut the little paw print border out using the Cricut Lite Meow cartridge. I really like this cartridge because I have two cats. It was cut at 2 inches.
The small paw prints are the leftover bits from cutting the border out.
The matte paper is from DCWV animal crackers pack.
The butterflies are made from a martha stewart punch.
The alphas and striped paper are from the October Afternoon 5 and dime collection. It was featured in last months (or this month) kit from My Scrapbook Nook.
I made the tag for journalling from the same Meow cartridge. It was cut at 3 inches.

This is my submission for the Whimiscal Wednesday Challenge this week. You can find the challenge here: Challenge

Enjoy and happy creating!
